Services available to you

We have a highly skilled team with a broad range of clinical and non-clinical research expertise.  By having your study adopted by the NIHR South Manchester Clinical Research Facility, you may be eligible to receive support from skilled personnel to assist you in delivering your study.  Completion of the study adoption form will help you to consider which support service you require and will assist us in allocating resources to your research project.

Project Administration and Management

Our Project Management and Administration Team can assist you from study conception to completion. We help ensure trials are delivered within the defined time-frame and to required regulatory and quality standards.  We have expertise in planning and scheduling of studies, costing grant/commercially funded studies, contract negotiation and preparation/submission of applications for ethical/R&D approvals. We support the on-going management and conduct of studies during their life cycle by assisting in amendment submissions and processing, recruitment tracking, site file maintenance, preparation for monitoring visits and study close out.

Financial Management

We strongly recommend you contact the Facility if you are applying for research grants as our finance team can assist you in ensuring the appropriate funding is calculated to accurately cover the costs of undertaking your research.

Clinical Research Nursing

We are fortunate to have a team of Clinical Research Nurses working in our Facility with a broad range of clinical and research expertise.  Our nurses are highly skilled and knowledgeable in complex early phase clinical trial delivery and maintaining patient safety.

Clinical Physiology

Our Clinical Physiology Laboratory is well equipped for both basic and complex lung function techniques.  The Clinical Physiology Team has over 8 years experience in the field.

Sample Processing

We have laboratory resources to process biological samples from both commercial and academic research studies and a bank of temperature monitored freezers for low temperature archiving. The University Hospital of South Manchester site has close links with the University of Manchester and supports academic staff working within the Trust. The RACRF Laboratory Team also support the ManARTs (Manchester Allergy, Respiratory and Thoracic Surgery) Biobank; a collection of biological samples linked to a database of subject demographics, which is an invaluable resource for respiratory researchers.

Biobank Storage

Our Facility houses the Manchester Allergy, Respiratory and Thoracic Surgery (ManARTS) Biobank.  If your research requires access to tissue samples from this cohort, then you may be able to apply to ManARTS for use of stored samples consented for future research.  Click here to find out more about ManARTS.

Public Involvement and Engagement

Our team has knowledge and expertise in meaningful involvement of patients and the public in the research process, as well as engaging the people in respiratory and allergy research.
