Information about our research

Our mission is to have a direct impact on patient care via cutting edge research into respiratory and allergic conditions.

We are funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) to support experimental medicine and early phase (IIa/b) studies that require access to our specialised facilities, support or equipment.  Our Facility can provide you with the support you need to ensure high quality clinical research studies are delivered to time, target and within budget.

Every study that we support at the NIHR South Manchester Clinical Research Facility goes through an ‘adoption’ process. During this process we assess the benefit of the proposed research to both our patients and the NHS.  We also assess the quality of the research to ensure it meets the current priorities in respiratory research, such as improved treatment pathways for patients, new and accurate tests to diagnose conditions, and the development of new medications for respiratory and allergic diseases.
